“We started our day at the Blood Bank of Delmarva, where we each donated Whole Blood. According to the Blood Bank and the American Red Cross, ‘one donation can save as many as three lives, and every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. It is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. Whether a patient receives whole blood, red cells, platelets, or plasma, this lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation’.
For those of you who know me, you know I’m not a big fan of needles (I once coded in the emergency room while contemplating a needle in my arm, but that’s a story for another time), but I’ve somewhat conquered that fear and have now donated over three gallons. I know that’s not a lot compared to some of my friends who have donated so much more, but I applaud everyone’s efforts. And, after giving early in the day, it’s acceptable to have an ice cream bar, some Nutter Butters, and a bag of pretzels for breakfast.
We then visited former Friends of Fusion Foundation Board Member Jodi Drake at ASPIRA Academy, where she’s the new K-2 school counselor. When a Foundation Board Member resigns, the Foundation gives them a $500 mini-grant to donate to the non-profit of their choice that fits the Foundation’s mission. Jodi chose ASPIRA Academy and her mini-grant was used to purchase well-being and wellness products that will promote the physical, mental, and emotional health of her students. We had a great time meeting some of Jodi’s peers and going on a tour of ASPIRA.
We’ve got a few more stops to make before the end of the year, so please come back often and see what we’re up to.”
